I'm racist and shallow?!That can't be true!...Internalized Racism

So last night, I was explaining to a friend how I "could never date someone looks like me" and she pointed out that this is racist because I still took into account a person's race before giving them a chance. At first, I denied these allegations, defending myself by stating that I grew up surrounded by different races. I just preferred contrast. She then accused me of being shallow by going off of appearance rather than just personality. I grew upset ,but deep down inside...I knew she was right. I never noticed it really until this morning. I grew up being reminded of what race I am , always describing people by the color of their skin. I realized that I was unknowingly combining stereotypes with ones I saw/heard when a person's skin color was mentioned.Asian = good manners and clean, white= nice hair and might be nice, black= aggressive and will bring down my status. .My friend and I often get mistaken as sisters ,but really we look completely different. I was conforming to other people's opinion about being mixed makes us look related.I wouldn't date my friend because I am not attracted to her in that way. I shouldn't take in consideration that we are both mixed though.

I was reading my lovely friend's blog, simplebutchic, who is "moving away from eurocentric standards of hair" and embracing her natural hair.I have never found myself pretty until recently...I was told that straight hair, lighter skin, light eyes, being skinny were goals I should aim for.  I deliberately would use filters to make my skin lighter and makeup that was slightly lighter than my skin tone. It really disgusts me because I should have known that no matter how much I tried, I will never be accepted as 100 percent white. "Embrace the skin your in!"haha!Anyways, I apologize for having this mindset. I need to be color blind!I need to stop thinking about the race by getting to know more about the person on the inside...cheesy ,but true!

Until next time...Be color blind when it comes to judging a person's character!

Defending America's views/actions to the outside world...Reality check

The recent gun down of innocent African American male, Micheal Brown, really has got me thinking "Am I proud to call myself an American?" I usually focus on World Politics and the conflicts happening outside this nation. Its not that I don't care about what is happening here ,but facing the reality that our country is as "screwed up" as the rest of the world can be sort of traumatizing. America has always had propaganda such as "all men are created equal"(it should say "everyone" ,but... that's for another rant) and "justice for all" ,but how can this be true if we are killing our innocent citizens and letting murderers get away with it. Knowing our faults, we still manage to defend and encourage conformity through our twisted beliefs. I recently was messaging my Danish friend and she kept pointing out all the flaws of our system...I couldn't even defend at least one of her points. I actually agreed with most of them!  These aren't stereotypes of being prejudiced racist, sexist fatties with a government that is clearly not "for the people"...this is our reality. Again and again, we have evidence that shows a tug-of-war between the progression yet digression of our society.Black innocent men are killed, children massacred in schools, gang violence, unnecessary immigrant removal, the  lgbtq community denied their basic rights ,etc...we might as well be on the "developing nations" list because there is still much work to be done to make this country worthy of being called a "developed nation" in the 21st century.  This morning, an instagram post by the amazing Jillisblack, brought up a subject that needs to be addressed. The saying, "The black community", has always grouped all black people in that category ,but no one ever says  " the white community". She emphasizes the responsibility that Caucasians should have towards the Micheal Brown case. The white police officer should remind you to "fix your own community". She concludes her message by stating, "You'll stop pointing at uniforms  and remember that there are people wearing them. And those people? Those people are you. Just like "these" people are me."

This kid was only 18...he was unarmed, with his hands up in surrender to the authority... and yet, he was shot 8 times from 35 ft away.My brother, a young African American male, is turning 18 soon with his whole life in front of him. I can't imagine how I would react if a police officer shot him with absolutely no evidence. This effects everyone, regardless of race. We are all Americans who somehow think this country is the greatest in the world. This must stop! The probability of this happening to my sibling increases every day. Will his fate become like John Crawford, Eric Garner , Tarika Wilson, Malcolm Ferguson, Renisha McBride, Amaduo Diallo, Yvette Smith, Oscar Grant, Sean Bell, Kathryn Johnston, Trayvon Martin, and Micheal Brown?

"Am I proud to be an American?" Honestly, not at the moment. "Am I willing to defend our views?" Not ones I will never believe in.

Until next time... "Hands up, Don't shoot".

Do I even remember how to write a letter?

Greetings lovelies! Many people often forget ( including myself) that there was a way of communicating with one another before electronics were invented. You just needed a pen and piece of paper to express how you feel about another person. Nowadays, when one gets something in the mail, it's usually "junk mail" or "that letter from grandma with money inside". Its become so under rated when someone takes the time to sit down and write a heartfelt letter rather than a quick text/email. For this uhm... tutorial? You will need a few supplies.I purchased mine at Micheal's , but I'm sure most places have these items.

Materials:

Some cute, crazy stickers-

Letter and envelope-

And of course, a pen!-

Now write yo letter! Write it to someone you love/like, maybe a crush, a friend, band member, movie star, hello kitty, or a relative. Or just find a random address in the phone book and send it to that person! haha! Just Kidding! Please don't don't that one!Anyways after you write your letter, add some personal touches like weird stickers on the front that may show interests of both you and the person your writing.

Now stuff that letter in that envelope!Add a cute sticker to seal the treasure inside ;)

Now put the address of your significant other and send that thang!Uhm from personal experience, please remember that your address goes on the left hand corner and the one you are sending it to goes in the middle of the envelope.

Welp thats it!See ya later lovelies!
